Mark on bottom of piece indicates made between 1941-1946. The bamboo pattern as seen in this Bowl was introduced in 1937, and by far became the most successful design of Winfield Ceramics. This bamboo design, probably to form a line of dinnerware, was hand painted, perhaps by Margaret Gabriel, Winfield’s designer. Gabriel’s hand-painted design patterns were bamboo, tulip, avocado, geranium and citrus. The bottom of the bowl is unglazed and in handwritten script, and reads “Winfield 312 Pasadena.” More than four hundred separate designs comprised the Winfield line; three hundred of which were for use in food preparation and dinning.
