Painting
Oil painting on canvas showing a majestic landscape of large, brown buffalo scattered across the western wilderness with a flat, curving river in the right-side background. Above the river is a glowing, white angel in the sky with wings on her back and her arms outstretched. The angel is appearing to an American Indian man riding a white horse in the left-side foreground. The horse is standing on its hind legs as it endures the attack from a charging buffalo.

Drawing
Two, separate watercolor paintings each individually numbered (2010.16.1 and 2010.16.2) and each showing a bustling, crowded riot scene in the old west. Both paintings feature cowboys on horseback with rocky hills on one side of the cowboys and small, western settlement buildings on the other side. Each painting somewhat mirrors the other in layout and composition. Each painting is in its own individual metal frame, and both frames look identical.

Drawing
Pencil sketch of an old-fashioned, western U.S. scene on a sheet of horizontal, off-white tracing paper. A collection of 8 barrells is in the lower-left corner of the drawing and two men are riding horses in the lower-middle section of the drawing. Houses, tents, and trees occupy the background and right side of the composition. This sketch was done in preparation for the Brigante watercolor, "The Gold Rush" from 1936/1938 (2010.16.1-2).
This piece is framed with 2010.26.
