Sky Above, Earth Below
"Sky Above, Earth Below" traces the development of western American landscape photography from the late-nineteenth century to the present. The exhibition is not intended to be a comprehensive overview of western American landscape photography but rather a survey of that history through the lens of NEHMA’s collection. In broad terms, early landscape photographers focused on capturing and conveying the grandeur and mystery of nature, while contemporary photographers more often focus on the human alteration of nature.
