Eloy Torrez is a muralist and a singer-songwriter. Known for executing monumental paintings of Hollywood icons around Los Angeles, When the Clown Sings... is an example of the artist’s large-scale canvas works. Torrez employs a naturalistic approach to figural representation, rooted in a classical proficiency in painting technique. Although the figures are the focal point of the composition, the negative space is activated with gestural brushwork, Torrez recently compared negative space in his artworks to the charged pauses found in classical music.
