Conner describes the process of creating Untitled as “watching a thousand different drawings all happening, all of which could be stopped at any time… [the drawings represent] a technique to work through a sort of automatic stream of consciousness… to work on a drawing to the point that awareness is happening with the hand and the eye and the entire body in relation to the paper as it progresses as a thought-form across the page.” Afterimage: The Prints of Bruce Conner

Bruce Conner was born in 1933 in McPherson, Kansas, and studied at Wichita University as well as the University of Nebraska, where he graduated in 1956 with his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Conner also studied at the Brooklyn Museum Art School and the University of Colorado. Throughout his career, Conner worked in a variety of mediums including sculpture, collage, film and assemblage. Known for his contributions to the post-war era of art in America, Conner often used his art to comment on consumerism, discarded beauty and the deforming impact of society on an individual.
