Mellow blues and yellows form patches of sun and shade in Winter Stream. Cope’s close cropping creates a sense of intimacy within these unidentified woods. The stream acts as a pathway into the image and the viewer can almost hear the crunch of snow and the faint call of birds in the evergreens. Originally from Salt Lake City, Cope was intimately familiar with the Wasatch-Cache National Forest, which he skillfully depicts here.
