Todd Hayes is acutely aware of nature’s inspiration from his time exploring the mountains and deserts of Utah. Yet in practical terms he approaches his work as fundamentally a set of problems that need solving. Vases with Square is an elegant example of his use of bold, sophisticated form and color, with linear contours evocative of Utah’s monumental landscapes.

Hayes lives in Logan, Utah, where he is ceramic studio coordinator and adjunct faculty member at Utah State University. Prior to his position at USU, he served as the studio technician and as associate faculty at Collin College in Plano, Texas. He earned his MFA in 2010 from Wichita State University and his BFA in 2007 from USU. Twice Hayes received the Ellen Stoddard Eccles Scholarship during his BFA studies.

Billie Sessions, PhD.
