M. B. Wilson

Untitled
1974

Bronze
20.125 x 13.5 x 8.5 in.
Gift of John Sorenson
1984.1985

Wilson’s sculpture shows his sitter in clothing that indicates his Indigenous heritage and is also contemporary to the time when the work was made. While the man’s tribal affiliation is not identified, his head scarf and necklace suggest that he may be from a southwestern group, like the Navajo, Zuni, or Hopi. Many Indigenous Americans prefer to be identified by their tribal group, rather than a blanket term like “Native American.”
