Brad Schwieger is known for his hefty, highly altered wheel-thrown stoneware and his focus on non-functional vessel forms. For his wheel work, pieces are cut, stretched, stacked, twisted and reassembled, resulting in asymmetrical sculptural objects. Keeping true to his weighty aesthetic, this teapot looks loose, but it is soundly constructed; the organic edges and tilt make it playful. The added streaks of dark brown make the altered segments of the pot "pop." Schwieger says, “Form is the most essential element in my work. My secondary focus is to develop different types of surfaces that will enhance and support the form.”

Schwieger taught at Ohio University since 1990 and is currently Professor Emeritus and a full time studio potter in Athens, Ohio. Prior to that, he was an Associate Professor at Vincennes University in Indiana (1985-1990). He received his B.F.A. degree from the University of Iowa in 1981, and his M.F.A. degree from Utah State University with John Neely in 1983.
