This photograph depicts the curves, textures, and rhythm of Double Arch in Arches National Park. Born in Ohio, Reynolds came to Utah to teach at the Agricultural College of Utah (now USU) shortly after graduating from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1923. Reynolds came of age during the emergence of Regionalism, which encouraged artist to respond to local and regional landscapes, rather than pursuing cosmopolitan styles. Reynolds adopted this approach, capturing parts of the county and state that are still easily recognizable today.
