Boden immigrated to the United States in 1945, where she lived in New York City, New Mexico, and ultimately California. In 1978, Boden’s friend from Paris, composer Peggy Glanville-Hicks, arranged for an exhibition of Boden’s work at the Australia Music Center in Sydney. Glanville-Hicks recruited six composers to each compose a unique score for one of Boden’s seven sculptures. Each sculpture was displayed on a rotating stand with its original musical score playing in the background. Typically using natural materials, Boden created a sense of motion in her work by gluing together small pieces of wood to portray surreal landscapes, birds, and animals.
