Landacer shows a farmer surveying his fields—is he contemplating the enormity of the work ahead, or taking a well-deserved break? Landacre created this image at the height of the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, when farmers across the US were dealing with spiraling economic uncertainty. Fortunately, Landacre was supported by a group of local collectors who pledged $100 per person per year between 1934 to 1940 to purchase his new works, including this piece.
