Born in Cuba and raised in Chicago, Paul Sierra explores the human condition on large-scale canvases, running the gamut of human emotion. In Mad Dogs, Sierra employs his vibrant color palette and kinetic brushwork to a primal yearning of the modern age. Accompanied by a pair of feral-looking dogs, the male figure discards his brief case and sprawls out in the lush vegetation to “howl at the moon.” However, Sierra depicts a facial expression open to interpretation. Is it rage, ecstasy, or agony that invokes our wilder instincts?
