Adams was a 30-year member of the Sierra Club, one of the nation’s first environmental groups founded in 1892 by John Muir. In 1960, the Club published Adam’s Portfolio III: Yosemite Valley, a series of 16 silver gelatin prints including this image. Adams later wrote in his autobiography “I believe in beauty. I believe in stones and water, air and soil, people and their future and their fate.”
