In this painting, Calvin renders Logan Canyon’s Wind Cave in a style reminiscent of his friend and colleague, Berger Sandzen. As with Cliffs, on display in the next gallery, Calvin adopts a Post Impressionist approach with strong brushstrokes and bold colors. Calvin believed that as an art teacher, it was his responsibility to model a variety of styles for his students. With this student-centric approach, his mentees affectionately dubbed him “the Prof.”
