California artist Bill Abright’s bear-shaped teapot uses stoneware to explore intersections of animal imagery and artistic storytelling. While retaining the recognizable structure of a teapot, Abright’s ceramic abstracts and exaggerates some of the bear’s features, including an elongated tongue for the vessel’s spout. The artwork blends function and expression recalling bears’ traditional associations with power.
