Anne Marie Grgich was born in Portland, Oregon in 1961. Although Grgich briefly attended two art schools she is often described as a self-taught artist and frequently is labeled an outsider or visionary artist. Grgich had a difficult early life which consisted of being in a car accident that left her in a coma for two months as well as belonging to a cult and punk rock group with serious drug addiction problems.

Grgich has filled in every square inch of space in Baby Oracle using found images that in the case of this piece reference traditional religious subject matter in unorthodox ways reminiscent of medieval church art.
