Born in Chicago Illinois, Botke is an artist and interior designer. She attended the Chicago Art Institute in 1897-98, and again in 1902-05. While at the Institute, Botke worked under renowned painter, muralist, and interior designer Albert Herter, who influenced her approach to composition and color. She began exhibiting her work in 1917 and moved to California in 1919 with her husband, Cornelious Botke, where she continued as an exhibitor and muralist.
