Famed photographer Dorothea Lange traveled to Utah on assignment from the Farm Security Administration to document the economic hardships of rural farmers during the Great Depression. Her photograph reveals the downfall of Widstoe, Utah, a once vibrant community mostly abandoned by 1936 due to drought and economic instability. Now a ghost town, Widstoe is an example of the transient and unstable nature of western settlements.
