Dorothea Lange is often regarded as America’s greatest documentary photographer. Like Lee, she is best known for her work for the Farm Security Administration. In Power station, she documents the federal government’s effort to increase electrical utilities around the country. Around the time Lange took this photograph, President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Rural Electrification Act, which provided loans to install electricity in rural areas of America.
