Untitled
1998

Earthenware and nails
13.75 x 9.125 x 8.75 in.
Gift of Richard W. Gold from the Arthur J. Williams Collection
2024.12.57

“Often my forms will seem to suggest a specific function or use, but the use is ambiguous; a hybrid of the known world with a less concrete reality,” says Wilt of pieces like Untitled. It resembles a teapot, yet it deviates from the conventional form, with its base covered in holes and resting on a stand adorned with protruding nails. The piece simulates various materials, such as metal, but it is entirely crafted from earthenware, except for the nails.

Wilt was born and raised in Pennsylvania. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Ceramics and Art Education from Penn State University and later completed his Master of Fine Arts degree at Ohio University, Athens. Wilt is currently an Associate Professor of Art at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.
