This small bowl, crafted from colored porcelain using the Japanese nerikomi technique, features a swirling blue-and-white pattern created by laminating colored clays together and then altering them. Thomas Hoadley has long explored the of depth perception and pattern variety that this technique allows, making them a signature of his work. As the artist explains, he views his patterns as “a collaboration between [his] imposed structure and the clay’s wise alteration of that structure.”
