Michael Corney’s production includes both functional and non-functional objects. The forms are united by their illustrations, a combination of figurative elements are unreal and alienating. The colorfulness of the figures created with stains and glazes often contrasts with their macabre expressions. The skeleton depicted on this plate is a recurring feature.

Corney is a studio artist based in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. He earned a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fullerton, in 1980 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, in 1985.
