Zweifel’s Teapot Set #68 (Cactus) is a contemporary interpretation of a classic ceramic form. Using the factory production method of slip casting, Zweifel used live pieces of cactus to create molds for this realistic, yet whimsical ensemble. Teapot Set #68 (Cactus) This teapot set is part of a widespread reimagining of the form by ceramic artists in the 1980s who broke away from the rigid rules of the vessel tradition. Zweifel experimented widely with the slip-casting method, favoring objects and plants found in the deserts of the Southwest.

David Zweifel received his BA in studio art from Humboldt State University, an important craft center in Northern California, in 1974. He continued his education at the University of Arizona, where he became enchanted with the desert landscape. He completed his MFA in 1976.
