German, b. 1963

Untitled
Date unknown

Gift of Driek and Michael Zirinsky

Born in Württemberg Germany in 1963, Ulrike Palmbach draws inspiration for her art from her German heritage, including the tales of Brothers Grimm. Often employing irony and a curious playfulness, Palmbach creates sculptures and installations that comment on modern life and consumerism. By creating everyday objects out of heavy, utilitarian materials, Palmbach creates objects seemingly recognizable with unfamiliar materials, shapes and placements. As seen in Untitled, Palmbach creates contrasts within her pieces by using soft, delicate structures. With her process, Palmbach references craftwork and domestic materials historically associated with women.
