Eunice Navasie Fawn’s elegant Bowl with Bird Design is a bold whiteware bowl with fine linework featuring a traditional Hopi motif. Navasie worked with the traditional Hopi technique of hand-coiled ceramic vessels fired in manure. Sheep manure was the preferred type, since these animals were introduced to the Southwest by Spanish colonizers. After firing, the pots were polished using river rocks. Navasie and her family were best known for their work in whiteware, and for the revitalization of traditional Hopi designs.
