Yolanda González makes big paintings intimate. Known for portraits, González imbues her larger-than-life figures with equal confidence and vulnerability. In El Principe que Nunca Llegó, the California native represents something less typical: a fable. The seated woman dreams of prínicpe azul, the Prince Charming that never manifested in real life. Omitting “...a rey,” the title subverts the tragedy of an heir that failed to ascend the throne. The real tragedy is that Prince Charming exists only in fairy tales.
