Joseph Pintz’s art is inspired by everyday objects and their role in fulfilling domestic tasks. A cream separator is a container for separating cream from whole milk. After letting the milk sit, the cream floats to the top and may be skimmed off by hand. Objects like this have their origins in antiquity, but the dawn of the Industrial Age led to the mechanization of the dairy production and the task of cream separation was achieved through centrifugal energy. Pintz’s cream separator is not functional but rather an homage to the object and its role in the dairy industry.
