C. J. Jilek is an alumna of Utah State University’s ceramics program, from which she graduated with an MFA in 2010. Now based in California, Jilek is an avid traveler, and her journeys greatly inform her work. She is particularly inspired by the natural world and incorporates into her work the native flora and fauna of the places she visits. This piece is from her ongoing sculptural series Biomorphic Forms. The title, Cross Pollination #8, underlines the importance of pollination in food production and increasing the yield of crops, as well as, perhaps, the productive interaction of artistic forms.
