Henri Moser began studying engineering at Utah State Agricultural College before being persuaded by a professor to pursue his vocation in art. In 1908, Moser left Cache Valley for Paris, where he remained until 1911. There, he made friends with Picasso and experimented with Fauvism, a style that prioritized bright, often arbitrary color, applied quickly and expressively. While Calvin established the educational framework for art students in northern Utah, Moser’s example expanded the scope of modernist painting in the region.
