Carole Barnes

American, b. 1935

Valley in Warmth
1970

Collage with watercolor on paper
24 x 20 in.
Museum Permanent Collection
1984.1616

Barnes is a Boulder, Colorado based artist who infuses her work with echoes of geological time. This collage of watercolor and torn paper mimics the striated red rocks in the Four Corners region. Emphasizing the rusty tones of the iron-enriched stone strata, the artwork radiates heat and invites her viewers to bask in the warmth radiating from the work.
