Upon entering art school in England, Duckworth was insistent that she study painting, drawing, and sculpture, and not be limited to just one medium. However, after viewing an exhibition of Indian ceramics, Duckworth began to focus primarily on ceramics and sculpture. Though she created traditional, functional ceramics early in her career, Duckworth soon began creating sculptural forms out of clay rather than practical tableware. Using a variety of themes and styles in her work, Duckworth was primarily inspired by Bronze Age Cycladic figures, creation imagery, natural landscapes, and topography.
