Juniper trees are notoriously scraggly and short. Logan Canyon’s Jardine Juniper, an impressive specimen, is only 40 feet tall, but almost 24 feet in circumference. At around 1,500 years old, it is one of the oldest trees in the country. Native Americans in the western United States used junipers for a variety of purposes, including medicines and as a natural bug repellant. Although not the most visually appealing tree, western settlers saw Junipers as a symbol of resilience in the face of harsh conditions.
