Originally from the small town of Monroe, UT, Larsen became one of the founding faculty members of the Brigham Young University Art Department and played a major role in elevating the Utah art scene in the early 20th century. Here, he paints a portrait of the mountain just behind Brigham Young University, but without the iconic “Y” which was added to the rock face in 1906. Before being dubbed Y Mountain, the peak was known by its Ute name, “Wahdahhekawee,” or Blessed Mountain.
