Groutage studied Utah State during Calvin’s final years of teaching and was hired as a faculty member in 1955 after receiving an MFA from the University of Utah in 1954. Groutage later cited Fletcher as a major influence on his artistic practice. Adopting Calvin’s artistic flexibility, Groutage stated, “One must not be married to one treatment, or one method.”
