Calvin and Reynolds were colleagues in the Utah State Agricultural College Art department from 1923 until Calvin’s retirement in 1952. Reynolds focus on rural subjects was very similar to Fletcher’s, and he was the chosen mentor for Irene while she attended USAC. As teachers, Reynold’s more American Regionalist style balanced Fletcher’s more experimental European approach. Throughout the 1930’s Reynolds slowly left painting to focus on photography.
