Thomas Benton, an American scene painter, was born in Neosho, Missouri in 1889. Thomas Benton attended The Art Institute of Chicago in 1907 after he finished schooling at the Western Military Academy. Benton started off as a modernist painter but when his father became ill, he returned to Missouri and developed a more naturalistic approach to his art which depicted the everyday life of rural living.
