Mutsuo Yanagihara

Japanese, b. 1934


Mutsuo Yanagihara was born in Kochi city, Japan in 1934. He attended Kyoto Municipal Fine Arts University where he studied under Kenkichi Tomimoto (a famous potterer). Yanagihara was invited to be a guest lecturer of the Department of Ceramics at Washington State University in 1966. In 1972,he was offered a position as Assistant Professor at Alfred State College in New York and Assistant Professor at Scripps College in California. After teaching in America, he returns to Japan in 1984 and becomes a professor at Osaka University of Arts.
