American, (1926–2014)
Edith Kallman was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1926. In 1959, Kallman moved with her husband and two children to San Jose, California where she lived until her death in 2014. While in San Jose, Kallman began formally studying art and was particularly influenced by contemporary artists such as Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock. In 1976, Kallman received a bachelor’s degree in art from San Jose State University where she also earned a master’s degree in painting in 1977.
