Beatrice Mandelman

American, (1912–1998)


Beatrice Mandelman was born in New Jersey in 1912. From 1930-1932 Mandelman studied at the New Jersey College for Women in New Burnswick (part of Rutgers University) In 1935 she became employed by the WPA as a muralist and printmaker and in 1938 continued her studies at the Art Students League in New York City. During this period she was associated with artists such as Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock. Mandelman married fellow artist Louis Ribak in 1942 and they moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico shortly after. In New Mexico they became the center of a group called the Taos Moderns. Mandelman died in 1998 in Taos, New Mexico.
