American, (1910–1913)
Halcyon Art Pottery was located near Pismo Beach, in southern California. Halcyon began in 1903 as a settlement of a utopian group called the Temple Home Association. In 1910, as part of their program to regenerate man, they started the pottery. Under the direction of Alexander W. Robertson, firing their first pieces made of unglazed red clay with modeled decorations by 1911. The pottery closed in 1913. Finding it far less placid than its name suggested, Robertson left Halcyon in 1912 for a position at Alberhill Coal and Clay Co. in rural Riverside County in southern California. He managed Alberhill for 2 years short lived (1913-1914), then it moved to Santa Fe Springs, CA to become Pacific Clay Products.
