Cyrus E. Dallin

American, (1861–1944)


Cyrus Dallin was born in Springville, Utah in 1861. He attended the Académie Julian in Paris France and studied under the sculpturer Truman Howe Bartlett. Dallin taught at the Drexel Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, Massachusetts. He was commissioned to create the angel Moroni statuefor the temple of the Church of Latter Day Saints in Salt Lake City. In 1930 he became a full Academician when the National Academy of Design made him an associate member. He died in Arlington, Massachusetts in 1944.
