American, (1886–1977)
Maurice Logan was born in San Francisco, California in 1886 and was raised in Oakland, California. He studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, the California College of Art and at the Chicago Art Institute. After his schooling, he established an art studio where he focused on watercolor painting. He was a member of Society Six, a group of artists who worked in post-Impressionistic styles and painted outdoors and socialized with one another while exhibiting their artwork around Oakland. He became a professor at the California College of Art and died in 1977.
