Ruth Asawa

American, (1926–2013)

Ruth Asawa was born in Norwalk, California in 1926. She attended Black Mountain College in Asheville, North Carolina. In 2010, Asawa started building a public high school for the arts and it was named the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts. Her artwork is exhibited at the De Young Art Museum, the J. Paul Getty Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art. She died in San Francisco, California in 2013.
