Feitelson was raised in New York and moved to Los Angeles in 1927. In the 1930s, he taught at Stickney Memorial Art School, where he met the student/painter Helen Lundeberg; they were married in 1933. Feitelson was arguably one of the most important artists in Los Angeles in the 1950s and had his own NBC television show, which was nationally syndicated, called Feitelson on Art.
