American, (1901–1988)
Carlotta Corpron was born in 1901 in Blue Earth, Minnesota. In 1905, Corpron’s family moved to India, where her father worked as a medical missionary. While in India, Corpron attended an English boarding school in the Himalayas. In 1920, Corpron returned to the United States and earned a degree in art education from the Michigan State Normal College in 1925 and a master’s degree in art education from Columbia University in 1926, where she also studied fabric and textile design. After leaving Columbia, Corpron taught art and design at several universities in the United States before settling as an instructor of art history and advertising design at the Texas Women’s College in Denton, Texas. She taught there until 1968 and lived in Denton until her death in 1988.
