Mexican/American, (1941–1989)
Carlos Almaraz was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1941. He attended the University of California in Los Angeles, the New School of Social Research in New York, California State, Los Angeles, and the Otis Art Institute. Almaraz was one of the founders of the Chicano art collective. The collective helped bring attention to Chicano art to mainstream American art institutions. He died in Los Angeles, California in 1989.
