Beatrice Wood was born in 1893, in San Francisco, California. She attended the University of Southern California and the Academy Julian in Giverny, France. She studied ceramics with Glen Lukens, a leading artist and teacher in California. Alongside opening her own studio, Wood taught ceramics at Happy Valley School (now called the Besant Hill School). She died in 1998, in Ojai, California.
