Anna Campbell Bliss was born in Morristown, New Jersey in 1925. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in art history and mathematics from Wellesley College in1946, she attended Harvard University, where she received a master’s degree in architecture in 1950. While a student at Harvard, Bliss met her husband Robert, also an architect, to whom she was married for 68 years. Inspired by the Bauhaus, Bliss studied art theory and design at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and engineering at New York University. After living in the vibrant Minneapolis art scene for several years, Bliss was initially disappointed to move to Salt Lake City in 1963 for her husband’s job as head of the architecture department at the University of Utah.
