Richard Tuttle was born in Rahway, New Jersey in 1941. He attended Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and the Cooper Union in New York. Tuttle helped run the Betty Parsons Gallery in New York where Parsons gave him his first show in 1965. He became the artist in residence at the Getty Research Insititue in 2012 and was a guest lecturer at the Art Institute of Chicago. Tuttle currently lives in Abiquiú, New Mexico.
